IK Multimedia Releases Major Update To Arc On Ear Headphone Interface

IK Multimedia's Arc On Ear just got a lot more versatile—now supporting 50 in-ear monitor models for pro-level mixing. The Italian audio maker has rolled out a major firmware and software update to its Arc On Ear DAC and headphone amplifier, enabling compatibility with a wide range of in-ear monitors (IEMs) used by musicians, engineers, and producers for critical studio reference monitoring. This update transforms the device from a specialized headphone interface into a universal monitoring tool for the modern studio.

IK Multimedia announced the update on July 5, 2026. The Arc On Ear, originally released in late 2024, is a premium desktop DAC and headphone amplifier that features built-in head tracking and spatial audio processing. It is designed to deliver a consistent stereo image and frequency response regardless of head movement, making it ideal for engineers who need to evaluate mixes without the acoustic variables of loudspeakers. Until now, the device was optimized primarily for over-ear headphones. The new compatibility with 50 IEM models closes a key gap.

The update comes as more professionals shift to in-ear monitoring for both live and studio applications. IEMs offer exceptional isolation, portability, and the ability to check mixes in noisy environments. However, different IEMs have vastly different impedance and sensitivity characteristics, so accurate representation of the reference signal requires careful impedance matching and gain staging. IK Multimedia's software update reportedly tunes the Arc On Ear's DSP to compensate for the electrical traits of each supported model, ensuring that what the user hears is flat and true to the source.

Among the supported IEMs are popular lines from Shure (SE series, Aonic), Westone (UM and W series), 64 Audio (U series, A series), and Sennheiser IE series, as well as models from Campfire Audio, Noble Audio, and Sony. The full list is available on IK Multimedia's website. The update also adds a new “IEM Reference” preset in the companion app, which loads the correct EQ and level calibration for the selected IEM. Users can switch between models on the fly and save custom profiles.

Industry observers see this as a smart move for IK Multimedia. The Arc On Ear initially targeted audiophile headphone users, but the pro audio market for IEMs is rapidly growing. By directly addressing that segment, IK Multimedia positions itself against rivals like Universal Audio's Apollo line and RME's ADI-2 DAC, both of which offer headphone outputs but lack tailored IEM support. "This could be a game-changer for mobile mixing and live sound engineers who want the consistency of a reference monitor in a tiny earpiece," said a senior audio editor at a tech publication.

Looking ahead, IK Multimedia hints at continued expansion. The company has promised quarterly compatibility updates adding more IEM models based on user feedback. The update is free for existing Arc On Ear owners and is available now via the IK Multimedia Download Manager. With the line between studio and live monitoring blurring, the Arc On Ear's IEM support could make it the go-to portable reference system for a new generation of producers.
