AWOL Aetherion Pro Projector Now Commercially Available

The AWOL Aetherion Pro projector, a Kickstarter sensation that raised millions before hitting production snags, is finally shipping to retail customers. Starting today, the ultra-short-throw laser projector—promising 4K resolution, Dolby Vision, and a built-in smart TV platform—can be purchased directly from AWOL's website and select electronics retailers, ending months of anxious waiting for backers and opening the device to a broader audience.

AWOL Vision, a Texas-based company specializing in ultra-short-throw laser projectors, launched the Aetherion Pro on Kickstarter in late 2025. The campaign shattered its funding goal within hours, ultimately raising over $3.2 million from more than 4,000 backers. The product's appeal lay in its combination of high-end specs—triple laser light source, 2500 ANSI lumens, HDR10+ support, and a 0.25:1 throw ratio allowing projection from inches away—at a price point roughly half that of competitors like the Samsung Premiere or LG CineBeam. However, like many crowdfunded hardware projects, the Aetherion Pro faced delays due to supply chain constraints and firmware optimization. AWOL now states those issues are resolved.

The retail launch marks a pivotal moment. The Aetherion Pro is priced at $2,999, which undercuts most premium ultra-short-throw projectors by $1,000–$2,000. It features Android TV 12 built-in, eliminating the need for an external streaming device, and supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The projector can cast a 120-inch diagonal image from just 11 inches away. AWOL also offers a proprietary ambient light-rejecting screen (sold separately for $1,199) that significantly improves daytime viewing. Early reviews highlight excellent color accuracy and contrast, though some note that built-in speakers are adequate but not audiophile-grade.

Industry analysts see the Aetherion Pro as a bellwether for the ultra-short-throw category, which is growing at 15% annually as consumers seek immersive home theater without the complexity of traditional installations. "AWOL is proving that crowdfunding can be a viable launchpad for premium consumer electronics," says Michael Perkins, editor of ProjectorCentral. "The challenge now is scaling customer support and warranty services to match the big guys."

Looking ahead, AWOL plans to expand distribution to brick-and-mortar stores like Best Buy by Q4 2026. The company is also rumored to be developing a higher-end model with gaming-specific features like 120Hz refresh rate and low input lag. For now, the Aetherion Pro sets a new price-performance standard—one that established brands will have to answer.
